Update: Inquest Opened Into Death Of Burslem Pub Doorman Liam Smith

An inquest into the death of Liam Smith, the 29-year-old doorman who died while working at a Burslem pub last month, has been opened and adjourned.

The inquest was listed to open at Swann House, Boothen Road, Stoke, on Monday 21 September.

Coroner Daniel Howe told the hearing that a member of the public found Mr Smith unresponsive on 29 August. Emergency services were called, and he was declared dead at the scene.

The coroner said post-mortem examinations had not yet provided a cause of death and that investigations were ongoing.

No date has been set for the full inquest.

Staffordshire Police have said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Six Towns Daily reported on Monday 21 September that the inquest was due to open. Mr Smith, from Blurton, was working as a bouncer at The Old Post Office on Wedgwood Street, Burslem, when he died on the evening of Saturday 29 August.

His family have said he had lived with epilepsy since he was 13, and they believe he died after a seizure. The coroner has said a cause of death has not yet been established.

Speaking earlier this month, his mother, Donna Smith, told BBC Radio Stoke: "He was so funny. He'd do anything for a laugh, even if it was at his own expense."
