19-year-old Stoke-on-Trent woman died after serious crash

A 19-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent has died following a serious road collision in Staffordshire, with an inquest now being opened into her death.

Harriet Boyles was a passenger in a Ford which crashed into a tree on Lichfield Road in Armitage during the early hours of Saturday, 22 August. Emergency services were called at around 1.35am, with Harriet suffering serious injuries and being taken to hospital. She sadly died on Wednesday, 26 August. Staffordshire Police later confirmed that Harriet's family had paid tribute to the young woman, describing her as "beautiful" and highlighting her kindness and caring nature.

Harriet's family said she had been looking forward to starting an apprenticeship in finance and had already made a strong impression during her school years, where she was recognised as Head Girl. They also revealed that Harriet became an organ donor, with six organs donated to help save or transform the lives of others following her death.

The driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and has since been released on bail with conditions while the investigation continues. Police are still appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage from the collision to come forward.

An inquest into Harriet's death has now been opened and adjourned. The latest report states that the cause of death involved a traumatic brain injury.
