A parent says they were shot in the leg while around 50 young children were training at football pitches in Birches Head.

The parent, who does not want to be named, says they were hit in the calf on Monday evening (28 September) at the 3G pitches at Birches Head Academy, while their son was at football training between 6pm and 7pm.

They say they were hit by what they believe may have been a BB gun.

They say around 50 children aged six to nine were training at the time, and that the incident was reported to Staffordshire Police.

"It's absolutely shocking that someone is shooting people," they said. "Whoever shot me also put my son and about 50 other children in danger, ages ranging from six to nine years old. The outcome could have been very different."

"My leg is a bit of a mess and it has slowed me down considerably this week, and I'm self-employed."

They said they had come forward because "I want to keep my children safe."

Anyone with information can contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
