Fenton Park Church 'To Close And Be Sold' As Rainbows Group Given Four Weeks To Find New Home

A Fenton community group is reportedly searching for a new home after being told Fenton Park Methodist Church is closing and being sold.

According to a post shared in a local community Facebook group, the Fenton Rainbows, who meet at the church every Monday from 5pm to 6pm, have been given just four weeks' notice to find somewhere new.

The Potteries Mission Circuit, which the church belongs to, says on its website that worship at Fenton Park has been "suspended until further notice". It hasn't publicly announced a closure or sale, and we couldn't find any sale listing for the building.

The red-brick church, on the corner of Fenpark Road and Fenton Park, opened in 1900 as a United Methodist chapel. Local history records say it was built on the site of a blacksmith's workshop, and that six members of the congregation mortgaged their own homes to pay for it. It holds two war memorials, its own First World War roll of honour and one brought from Fenton's closed Mount Tabor chapel. Its hall has been used over the years by Scouts, Guides, Brownies and other community groups.
