Work to demolish a fire-damaged building on Market Street in Longton is under way, with crews using a cherry picker to take down the burnt-out roof and upper floors.
The demolition started on Thursday 24 September, when Stoke-on-Trent City Council closed a section of Market Street near Times Square from 7pm. The closure is due to stay in place until 3pm on Sunday 27 September.
It is the third attempt to take the building down. Work planned for July was postponed twice, which the council blamed on private contractors hired by the building's owners failing to go ahead.
The former commercial building was badly damaged in two fires late last year. The council said its building inspectors have kept monitoring the site and raised concerns about the safety and stability of what remains of the structure.
Buses to Bentilee and Meir that normally stop on Market Street are calling at Longton bus station while the road is shut. The council said businesses affected by the work are being contacted directly by the contractor.
