City Intervention Team Made More Than 500 Arrests In First Year, Police Say

A dedicated police team set up to tackle crime in Stoke-on-Trent has made more than 500 arrests in its first year, according to Staffordshire Police.

The City Intervention Team (CIT) was launched in September 2025 to take pressure off response and neighbourhood officers, the force said.

Figures released by Staffordshire Police on Thursday 24 September say the team has also seized more than £5,000 worth of monkey dust and carried out 160 stop and searches.

The force said the team had recently recovered three suspected stolen motorbikes.

According to Staffordshire Police, the team's work includes supporting other officers, patrolling crime hotspots, searching for high-risk offenders and carrying out stop and searches.

Sgt Adam Charlesworth, of the CIT, said: "We are actively reducing the workload of other officers, meaning that investigations move more quickly and victims see results much faster."

Sgt Charlesworth also said the team's work had helped to reduce offending in the city.

"Over the past year, we have seen a reduction in offending thanks to early intervention and we are committed to continuing working across Stoke-on-Trent," he said.
