£600,000 upgrade planned for Newcastle council depot

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is planning to invest £600,000 in a major refurbishment of its operational depot on Knutton Lane.

The depot, which dates back to the 1960s, is used by around 150 staff working across waste, recycling and Streetscene services.

If approved by Cabinet, work will take place over the next 12 months, with the first phase focusing on health and safety improvements including new line markings, additional vehicle barriers, upgraded lighting and improved CCTV and security.

A second phase is expected to begin in spring 2027, with improvements to staff toilets, showers, canteen and office areas.

The council says the investment is aimed at creating a safer and more modern working environment while ensuring the depot remains operational and frontline services continue.

The £600,000 investment is already included in the council's capital programme across the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial years.
