Three former Army friends are taking on an incredible 750-mile journey across Europe in a desperate bid to help their seriously ill friend reach potentially life-saving treatment.
Jenny Moore, Vicky Spencer and Mandy Meigh first met through their service in the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC), with Jenny and Vicky joining the Army together in 1987 before meeting Mandy several years later while serving in Germany.
Decades after their military service brought them together, the three friends have reunited for what they describe as a “mercy mission” for Vicky, who has been battling stage 4 bowel cancer for the past three years. According to the fundraiser, Vicky’s cancer has returned and she has now been offered treatment at a clinic in Bavaria, Germany.
The trio are planning the mammoth 750-mile road trip to get Vicky to the clinic, with the journey expected to take around 17 hours. The fundraiser says they are raising money towards fuel, insurance, travel costs and other expenses, with Vicky expected to remain at the clinic for eight days for treatment.
The GoFundMe has already raised £2,773 of its £3,500 target from 121 donations. The women have also said they will be sharing live updates from their journey, documenting their extraordinary trip as they travel across Europe.
Jenny describes the mission simply: “No woman left behind.”
For three women who served together decades ago, this is now a very different kind of mission, one driven by friendship, determination and the hope of giving Vicky another chance.
