Firefighters are currently battling a blaze in the city centre. Police shut off Trinity Street this evening from its junction with Marsh Street towards Foundry Street.

  1. Update from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service

    Five appliances and our aerial ladder platform (ALP) worked to tackle a large fire in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, last night.

    The fire was extinguished by crews wearing breathing apparatus using three main jets and the ALP. Thankfully nobody was reported injured.

    Crews remained at the scene overnight to monitor and dampen down any hotspots.

  4. MORNING UPDATE: FIRE AT FORMER GROOVE CASTLE NIGHTCLUB IN HANLEY

    A fire broke out at a former nightclub in Hanley last night, with four fire engines sent to tackle the blaze.

    Firefighters were called to the building on Trinity Street, the former home of Groove Castle, at around 9pm on Thursday evening (August 20).

    The incident saw a significant emergency response, with crews working to deal with the fire at the former nightlife venue. The latest reports say the blaze was located in the building above the former nightclub.

    The building has been at the centre of planning discussions in recent months after proposals were submitted to convert the former nightclub into flats.

    An earlier application for 23 self-contained flats was refused by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, with planning officers raising questions over the property's previous use.

    The fire adds another chapter to the story of the long-empty Hanley building.
