Two people charged with murder following death of Jamie Evans

Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of Jamie Evans in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Murder of Jamie Evans
Staffordshire Police

Corey Hughes, 20, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, who is White British, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, who is White British, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

A 19-year-old man, also from Newcastle-under-Lyme, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been released on conditional bail as our enquiries continue.

It comes after we were called to Orme Road just after 5pm on Friday (4 September) by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi.

The driver of the Ford was 20-year-old Jamie Evans, from Stone. He was found with a serious injury consistent with a stab wound, which we believe he suffered on Orme Road before getting into the car.

Sadly, Jamie was later pronounced dead.

Cartlidge and Hughes remain in custody and are due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre tomorrow (Tuesday 8 September).
